Two in a Row!

Tate has made it through two steroids cycles without using his wheelchair! Woo hoo! Not only that, he let me take the wheelchair out of his room today. That is HUGE! Huge. Greg and I are thrilled he is finally comfortable moving through the house on his feet again. It has been more than a year since he was strong enough to do that.

Tate has been working hard at physical and occupational therapy. He was miserable after treatment last Tuesday, but he didn’t give himself the week off as in the past. He showed up to his appointments tired and chemo-sick, and he left totally exhausted.

This machine works both arms and legs.
The therapists at this place are hilarious! They have a machine that simulates riding a horse, and they brought a cowboy hat for the patients to wear while they use it. The machine rocks back and forth and a little bit sideways; the idea is that it helps patients develop their abdominal muscles. Tate spent 10 minutes at medium speed. Tate is grinning under the hat.

Tate also got new glasses this week. He looks sharp!

Tate has physical and occupational therapy appointments Friday afternoon. That place has been really good for him; they work him hard, and he’s looking and moving more like himself every day.

Today is Day 8 after treatment, so Tate looks and feels good. His physical therapist Duane said it’s time to get him moving around outside too. He gave us a stack of pamphlets for groups in the east valley that have activities Tate would be able to participate in. Tate gave me a dubious look when I mentioned it, but I’m going to take Duane’s instructions and start bringing him to stuff.
