TGID8!

Thank Goodness It’s Day 8!

Tate had a bad week. He woke up sick to his stomach a few days ago and stayed that way until this morning. We don’t know whether it was related to chemotherapy last week or if he was fighting something new. We realize it could be a combination both and did our best to treat the symptoms with the collection of prescription medications he has accumulated over the last year.

Tate was too sick to go to his cello lesson this week, and to add insult to injury, the cat has been mean to him. Cats…sigh.

And thank goodness for a pretzel bread delivery from The Wilson Family, gourmet cookies from the Stakers (that he hoarded for himself), and enchiladas from the Kulps! It takes quality food to get through a week like that.

Today Tate looks awesome. It’s Day 8. Yayyy! This morning he even went outside to watch Dwayne for a while. Tonight we’re headed to dinner to celebrate his big brother Scott’s 20th birthday, and Tate is feeling good enough to come.

This is Tate’s new favorite snack. The two closest grocery stores are out-of-stock, and I’m convinced it’s because Tate has eaten them all. Even on a bad day he can’t say no to one of these.
This is Tate’s favorite dinner. Our family calls them “Meat Pockets,” but technically they’re called Korean-Spiced Beef and Cabbage Rolls. Tate ate nine of them!

A little more about food.

It’s hard for me to separate care from food, not only because of the nutritional deficit I think Tate is living with, but also because it’s comforting. Several years ago, our neighbors brought me to a women’s Christmas event at their church. The keynote speaker said, “To serve is to love.” I think of that every time someone arrives with bread, jam, fruit, or a whole meal. What it means to open our door and receive these gifts is not lost on us. Thank you for the love.
