Pins and Needles

It finally happened. Tate got sick. He started coughing in the early evening yesterday and said his throat tickled. This morning his cough and sore throat were worse. So far no fever! So far nothing, actually. I talked to his nurse today, and she said to treat the symptoms to keep him comfortable and to monitor for fever.

Tate looks really good for having had a lumbar puncture and chemotherapy yesterday. He is in a funny mood, and he keeps coming out of his room to mess with the dogs. He has a squeaky pig toy that makes the Great Dane jump around and growl some weird growls.

Try it if you dare. Seriously.

Tate has had three doses of steroids, and they always make him crave spicy foods. This ramen is the hottest! It’s so spicy Tate likes to eat it with a side of ice cream.

Tate, Ben, Jerry, and the ramen

It’s a weird combination of relaxed and anxious over here. We have been warned how dangerous it would be for him to get sick so many times that we fully expected him to be at the hospital by now. His hospital bag is packed, and we are poised to take him to the ER at a moment’s notice if needed.
