Cure vs Disease

The table in our hallway previously reserved for dust and Christmas decorations has been converted to the centralized location for Tate’s prescriptions and medical supplies.  Managing medication properly is crucial, and even difficult at times.  Most of the prescriptions on the table are to combat the effects of chemotherapy.  One of the bottles is chemotherapy.

This is the weekend morning and evening regimen; on weekdays there is one less pill.  The midday dose is significantly smaller, consisting of only four pills.  I recently told Tate I know it’s hard for him to have to take so many pills.  He looked at me incredulously and said, “This is the easiest thing I have to do!”

In this picture you can also see some of the nephropathy Tate is experiencing.  His fingers are curled like this all the time, and trying to straighten them is painful.  He is working with an occupational therapist to get his hands working again.  He has made so much progress in just a few weeks.

In the mornings, Tate usually wakes up just long enough to take his meds before falling back asleep for another 2-3 hours.  Sleep is the most restorative, healing thing for the body.  I know Tate is fighting all the time, even in his sleep.
