Rocks in the Washer

Tate is doing awesome. He hasn’t missed class since having the flu at the beginning of the semester, and having a little freedom in the form of driving has been really good for him. My heart soars every time I see him drive away.

He is still very new to driving so I ask him to text me when he arrives at his destination. I’m sure that sometime soon we will both realize that has become unnecessary. One day recently, as I reminded him to text me when he gets there, he got out of his car, picked up a landscaping rock and put it in his pocket.

Me: What was that about?

Tate: Oh. (Grins sheepishly.) I put a rock in my pocket to remind me to text you, otherwise I forget. I know the rock shouldn’t be there, and it helps me remember.

Last night there were four rocks at the bottom of the washer when I pulled out his clothes to move them to the dryer. I am still laughing about it today.

Tate used the elliptical at therapy for the first time this week. He was able to stay on for 5 minutes. It’s a pretty amazing feat if you consider the motion and balance it takes to stay upright on one of those things.

When he’s not asleep or at school, he’s studying. The cat is unimpressed by all of it.

Tate has an appointment with the Nurse Practitioner Angie and chemo tomorrow. He also begins a 5-day steroids pulse. The good news is he should be feeling great when Spring Break rolls around.
