Bad Week

Tate has been the most miserable guy. It breaks our hearts. It’s hard to watch him fight his fight and feel useless against his burden. Yesterday morning when I asked him how he was doing, Tate said, “I’m really bad” and then hid under his blanket and asked me to find his cat.

Last day of the steroid pulse. It took some time, but I finally found the cat.

It’s sad, and at the same time, Tate’s drive is inspiring. No matter how terrible he feels, he has never wanted to give up. He sees a future for himself and can connect today’s struggle with tomorrow’s freedom.

Friends to the rescue! Cuties, all of them.

Tate’s friends Cody and Emma have visited the last two evenings. Monday night they brought garlic bread and cookies (Tate loves carbs), and last night they brought Tate’s favorite spaghetti, more garlic bread, and a salad. Last night they apologized for arriving later than planned, but they were playing in the rain. Understandable! Ha ha ha.

Tate woke up today feeling so much better today! He slept in until after 11:00am! He had some cookies (from Emma) and lemonade for breakfast. He even walked to the kitchen to grab a couple bottles of water. The last few days he has barely left his room, so seeing him awake and alert with the worst of the steroid side effects gone is a huge relief.

Some Make Tate Great Again hats appeared in Nebraska over the weekend. Tate loves to see where the hats have traveled. It’s a big ask, but if you’re headed somewhere fun and can bring one with you, please send a picture! If you don’t want to be in the picture (and risk your face appearing here), you can put the hat on a sculpture or in front of something fun and send that picture instead. I will make sure Tate sees everything you send.

If you need a hat, you are in luck because we have a few left! Text email, or leave a message here, and I’ll get it to you.
